Mountain House | Lake Washington

Mountain-inspired Northwest architecture shaped around Lake Washington views, outdoor living, and entertaining

Located just east of Seattle in Kirkland, this home occupies a sloping site overlooking Lake Washington. The homeowners wanted a custom home that would maximize the views and natural light while supporting their love of entertaining. The design also presented an opportunity to bring the relaxed, rustic character of mountain homes found in Sun Valley, Jackson Hole, and Bozeman into a Pacific Northwest setting.

Paul Moon Design organized the home around an L-shaped plan, placing the Kitchen, Living, and Dining spaces directly alongside the infinity pool, cabana, and lake views. Deep roof overhangs extend the outdoor season, while large glazed openings create a strong connection between interior and exterior spaces. A game lounge with a bar, shuffleboard, and pool table adds another layer to the home's entertaining spaces.

The architecture balances contemporary and rustic influences, combining stone, timber, steel, and expansive glass. Working collaboratively with the interior and landscape designers, Paul Moon Design coordinated the architecture, interiors, pool, and landscape to create a cohesive mountain-inspired home that feels equally at home in Kirkland and the Western mountain landscape.
