An Italian-inspired contemporary home shaped around Lake Washington views and the character of its Seattle setting

This new four-story home sits on a steep lot in Seattle’s Madison Park neighborhood, directly adjacent to The Seattle Tennis Club and overlooking Lake Washington. The sweeping views and challenging site shaped the design from the beginning. An elevator connects all four levels, allowing the house to work comfortably for the family over time.

We wanted the house to feel like a modern version of a Tuscan home—warm, simple, and connected to the landscape. Natural stone, light wood, and carefully proportioned windows give the architecture a relaxed character, while large openings take advantage of the lake views and bring natural light deep into the house.

Working with Seattle interior designer Susan Marinello, we carried the same warm, natural palette throughout the interiors and architecture. Stone, wood, and carefully selected furnishings give the home a comfortable, understated quality. The result is a contemporary Seattle home with the warmth and character of a Tuscan farmhouse, designed specifically for its steep site, Lake Washington views, and the way the family lives.
