Mercer Island Remodel

Located in a desirable Mercer Island neighborhood the 1970’s style ranch home sat on a flat lot with great sun exposure. The Owners loved the location but wanted a new layout to harbor their three growing boys. Our first instinct was to suggest modern, but the Owners immediately thought modern, hard, and cold surfaces. We arrived at a Northwest Contemporary stile which is unique to the Pacific Northwest, hallmarked by a warm comfortable feeling of natural wood and working with its surroundings. By extending the back of the house outward and upward, we raised the low ceilings and capitalized on the lot’s northern exposure, and connected it better to the yard.
